Gun Holmström

I'm born on an island in the south of Finland. During my childhood I was fishing and hunting with my father, swimming in the sea, climbing trees and building hiding places in the woods. Because I wanted to make the world a better place I went to study political and social science. After a few years however, it became clear that the world of politics wasn't my thing. Instead art knocked on my door and waked me up - very suddenly at the age of 25. I studied sculpture in Turku Art Academy and graduated in 1993. Since that I've been working as a freelance artist. My primary techniques are digital video, photo, the www and sound and my areas of interest covers sociological and spiritual questions. Year 2006 I got my Master of Fine Arts in "Context and new media" at the Gothenburg university in Sweden.

At the moment I'm finishing a short film about the ancient traditions of healing among the indigenous people in Colombia and working with a collaborative film project with young people in east Helsinki.
